Education is one of the most important tools we have to fight stigma surrounding mental health and substance dependence. These issues affect people the same way that heart disease might affect someone else. By learning a bit about the human brain, we can understand what causes different kinds of anxiety, depression, or substance dependence. We’re impacted by our mental health problems, but that doesn’t mean they must define who we are any more than another type of illness does. Even so, sometimes loved ones struggle to understand our suffering because our symptoms aren’t always local to a specific part of the body. Your family system can take part in your recovery through education and improved communication, which we are happy to facilitate. Your privacy is our top concern, and we’ll work with you to determine if, and when, to collaborate with your family system so that your recovery can be swift, thorough, and lasting.
